The Hunter Jupiter ATI Series 5 'All in One' Grinder has become the unsung hero, transforming the maintenance dynamics at Ormonde Fields Golf Club. This state-of-the-art machine, renowned for its precision and efficiency has led to significant improvements in speed and performance.
Ormonde Fields is an 18-hole, par 72 course, sprawled across 140 acres of parkland on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border, offering golfers of all levels unrivalled challenges amidst a backdrop of mature landscapes and varied wildlife.
Andy Ward, the Head Greenkeeper at Ormonde Fields, shares his insights into the course's progress and challenges, “It is progressing every year, and we are trying to make our mark and put the course on the map as much as we can. It has its challenges, especially with the course being on clay – but I like a challenge. I’m always smiling here, and the committee is great to work with.”

At the heart of Ormonde Fields Golf Club's recent success in streamlining operations is the Hunter Jupiter ATI Grinder. This cutting-edge machine has become an integral part of the club's maintenance arsenal, significantly enhancing efficiency and performance. Labelled as the ultimate 'All in One' machine, the Jupiter is a fully automatic relief and spin grinder with features such as automatic traverse, indexing, and in-feed. Compliant with CE standards and meeting Health and Safety requirements, this grinder is the epitome of precision grinding.
Andy expresses his satisfaction with the machine, stating, “We had a very old grinder around thirty years old, which was also a Hunter, and everything was done by touch. With the new Hunter Jupiter ATI, we get a triple sharpened, re-set and serviced ready to go back out on the course completed in one day. It’s made a huge difference."
He further emphasises the machine's versatility, noting, "It is interchangeable and is a very nice machine to have. The older model was just spin grind, but the Jupiter is spin and relief grind, so it is more efficient and effective. It is a good all-rounder."

Alex Wheat, Greenkeeper and Mechanic at Ormonde Fields, played a key role in advocating for the new Hunter Jupiter. "I kept asking the club to get us a new Hunter Jupiter,” he jokes. Highlighting the efficiency of the new machine, Alex says, “Being able to spin and relief grinding on one machine takes up a lot less room, which is beneficial because we haven’t got a very big workshop. I like the fact that it is automatic; you can just set it up and let it do its thing, then come back and you’ve got a sharp cylinder."
Expressing his confidence in the brand, Alex adds, "I did look at other brands of grinders, but I wasn’t convinced that they would last as long as Hunter – the old one we had was over thirty years old, so it was certainly a good investment."
Customer satisfaction goes beyond the machine itself, as Andy praises the exceptional customer service provided. “The backup has been brilliant; David Mitchison from Hunter Grinders comes out to do an annual service, and he is very helpful and knowledgeable."
In the realm of golf course maintenance, the Hunter Jupiter ATI has proven to be a game-changer for Ormonde Fields Golf Club, setting a new standard for overall excellence.
